Gear Needed

If you want to help out with my efforts to map out the sport of Seattle Snorkeling, there is some gear that I could use.  Right now the list is somewhat vague as I’m not sure where all this is taking me.  I feel weird posting it, but maybe some dive shop wants to sponsor my nutty ambition, or maybe you like reading about this stuff more than diving and you have that fancy dive camera in your garage that you never use.

  • Camera: Something digital and underwatery?  This is the single item I really wish I had on hand.
  • Help with species identification – I have two Audubon guide books on identifying North American and Pacific fishes, but most of what I see out there isn’t in either.  Anyone know a good guide on the creatures of the Puget Sound?
  • Instruments: Depth monitor of some kind?  Compass?  Thermometer?  Visibility, “polution”?  (Yeah, you know, a polutionometer…)
  • Maybe a dive watch so I can time runs.  Something with Temperature or Compass would be awesome!
  • Wetsuit Jacket? I might need one in the winter, but latest tests suggest that I might not after all.
  • Dive Flags and other “Awareness Devices” to help ward off boats and evil spirits.
  • Fins – I’m using boogy fins right now since they worked best with my bad legs, but they are too small for wearing  with boots really.
  • Gloves
  • Lycra Dive Skin (so I can stop giving drivers-by the thrill of seeing my cold wet nethers when I change out of the wetsuit) I am also intrigued by something called a “changing robe”.
  • BootsDive Socks (I took Jenny’s and they are fantastic!)
  • Spare gear of any kind really.  I like to take people out and introduce them to the sport!  So far, I’ve got a 100% conversion rate.
  • Underwater sketch book?   Sometimes I can’t get in for a photo, but I do want to take notes as to what I’m seeing for later identification.

I’m also looking for any kind of hookups with regard to the greater scientific community and will gladly cary out experiments and count fish as I go forth.
